Visiting Green Bay, Wisconsin

and ICONIC Lambeau Field

Published:

We visit Green Bay, Wisconsin for the first time and discover that the Green Bay Packers are so much more a part of the community than we ever knew. But while the Packers might be the center of the community, there is a whole lot more to do in Green Bay than just the Packers!

We absolutely LOVED the couple of days we had in Green Bay and will 100% visit again to experience more of what this city has to offer! But what we did experience during our visit gave us an appreciation for the strong sense of community that exists here.

In this post, we're sharing the video of our visit to Green Bay, links to things to do in Green Bay, interesting tidbits and tips for visiting, as well as fun facts and pictures from our time there. Let's get started!

Things to Do in Green Bay WI

A tour of iconic Lambeau Field is an absolute MUST DO while you're in Green Bay!

And when you're buying tickets for the stadium tour, consider a combo that includes the Hall of Fame Museum and Heritage Trail Trolley Tour.

What is Green Bay, Wisconsin Known For?

Established as a small trading post named "La Baie de Puants" (which is French for "Bay of Stinking Waters") on what would become a major French fur trading route, Green Bay is considered the Oldest City in Wisconsin. It was officially incorporated as the city of Green Bay in 1854.

The green algae that bloomed in the stagnant waters of the bay are what gave the bay and the city their names.

The first splinter-free toilet paper was produced in Green Bay in 1935, lending to it becoming known as the "Toilet Paper Capital of the World".

Paper mills are still a primary industry in Green Bay, with the first one being built here in 1865.

Green Bay is the smallest city (by far) to have a National Football League team, and actually, Green Bay is the smallest US city to be home to any professional sports team. The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919, and are owned by the community. They are the only NFL team owned by their fans.

The 2025 NFL Draft is being held in Green Bay beginning April 24.

10+ square miles of the city's geographic area are water.

Green Bay is also known as "Titletown". The Packers have won more championships than any other NFL team.

Tips for Visiting Green Bay, Wisconsin

There are several options for touring Lambeau Field. We chose the Legendary Stadium Tour which was the longest stadium tour and provided the most access. It was truly an amazing experience. But, on top of that we bought the tour as part of the Ultimate Tour Package which included admission to the Hall of Fame Museum and the Heritage Trail Trolley Tour. The stadium tour, museum and trolley tour each provided a unique experience and stories. We're happy that we chose this option.

It was completely by accident that we visited during Packers Training Camp. But this FREE event absolutely added to our experience. If you are a football fan or just a fan of traditions, try to schedule a visit during Training Camp and take in a practice.

During our visit, free parking was available at the stadium.

If you don't have time to take the Heritage Trail Trolley Tour or it's not running while you are in Green Bay, you can download a map of the Heritage Trail from the Trolley web page to explore on your own. You won't get to hear all of the stories from the tour, but you will get to see the places that Green Bay cherishes.

Also from the Trolley Tour page linked in the Things to Do section of this post, you can find a Heritage Trail City Walk map if you'd like to explore Green Bay on foot. Each of the stops highlighted on this walk feature an information plaque.

And to explore more by foot, take a stroll around the La Baye loop, a one-mile walk through shops and restaurants stretching through the city center and both sides of the Fox River that runs through town. The name harkens back to another historical name for the city before it became known as Green Bay.

Green Bay's Farmers' Market on Broadway happens every Wednesday afternoon from late May through late September. With 120+ vendors, it is said to be one of the largest farmers markets in Wisconsin! But wait! There's more! The Saturday Farmers Market in Downtown Green Bay has been running since 1917! It happens Saturday mornings from late May to late October and features 100+ vendors.

Plan to visit the area for at least 5 days! We scheduled 3 days here, but we had no idea that the Green Bay Packers experience would take us two entire days to complete! (and we loved every minute of that time) Our 3rd day was rainy and we were ready to relax and catch up on content, so we missed out on everything else we wanted to do. We would absolutely recommend spending 5-7 days in Green Bay if you can to allow yourself to see everything you want to see and still have time to relax.
