Diesel Motorhome Chassis Maintenance Tips

from Freightliner Custom Chassis

This week, we are joined by Robert Barnard and Bobby Wayne Scruggs from Freightliner Custom Chassis to discuss important tips for maintaining your diesel motorhome chassis.

When folks are shopping for a motorhome, we often hear them talk about their favorite floorplan features and colors along with their preferred engine and RV size, but rarely do we hear folks talk about the RV's chassis. But, we believe, it definitely should be part of the conversation.

An RV's chassis is perhaps the most important part of the RV. It is the skeleton that the rest of the house rests on. Without its chassis, an RV is just a tiny house... not a house on wheels.

Many people don't realize, or maybe just don't think about the fact that there are choices when it comes to a motorhome's chassis. Not just choices in chassis manufacturer, but also in brands and styles within a manufacturer' line.

But no matter which chassis your RV sits on, it needs maintenance. And being educated about some of the maintenance can go a long way to saving you money and potential trouble down the road.

Over the course of our RVing lives, we've owned 5 RVs: a travel trailer, a gas Class A motorhome, and 3 diesel Class A motorhomes. Two of our 3 diesel motorhomes (including our current Newmar New Aire) have been built on a Freightliner chassis. We have a long history of solid customer service and support from Freightliner, and we truly enjoy visiting with everyone we have met who works for the company.
